A 2026 read of the Python Arsenal for RE toolset originally published by DSecRG around 2010. The full piece lands in the next publication cycle. Filed under Heritage revisits.
The Python Arsenal for RE was a 2010-era catalogue of Python libraries for reverse-engineering work — debuggers, disassembly wrappers, structured binary parsers, hooking tools. At the time most RE work was IDA-Python, OllyDbg scripting, or hand-rolled tooling; the catalogue mapped the space and pointed at the libraries worth learning.
In 2026 the catalogue is largely obsolete by name (winappdbg, pydasm, paimei) but the practice it pointed at — instrumenting binaries via Python — is now the dominant RE workflow via Ghidra-Python, IDA-Python, Triton, angr, and miasm. The full revisit will walk through which 2010 tools have direct 2026 successors, which were absorbed into larger frameworks, and which categories never re-emerged.
